Background
Sarangerel is the product of an unfortunate love affair between a Qestiri woman - sworn to silence - and a Qalli man - a songbird of the steppe. After being abandoned by the father, Sarangerel's mother cast her infant daughter away in her grief, giving her to the Kahkol tribe.
While the Kahkol tribe accepts refugees from all across the steppe, regardless of the reason why they no longer have a tribe to call their own, Sarangerel never felt like she belonged in the tribe. Unlike the others who had "earned" their place through loss, hardship, and combat, she had been tossed aside by family who could still be alive and well. Desiring to gain strength and put some distance between herself and her tribe, Sarangerel trained in the ways of the warrior and hunter from a young age, and often went hunting alone.
When she turned 16, she decided she could no longer bear her - self-inflicted - shame and fled from the Kahkol tribe. On her journey, she was injured by a pack of wild beasts, but was miraculously saved by a group of traveling merchants and their hired blade. Inspired by the strength of this mercenary, Sarangerel begged the group of travellers to take her with them, so she could put her skills to work as well. The group accepted, and she travelled with them all the way back to Kugane where she began her life-long career as a hired blade.
